Salt Water Taffy

Homemade Saltwater Taffy Ingredients   - 1 cup granulated sugar   - 1/4 cup unsalted butter   - 1/2 cup light corn syrup   - 1/4 cup water   - 1/4 teaspoon salt   - 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract   - Food coloring (optional)   Instructions Prepare the Mixture:   In a saucepan, combine the sugar, corn syrup, water, and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.   Boil the Mixture:   Once dissolved, stop stirring and allow the mixture to boil until it reaches 260°F (127°C) on a candy thermometer. Add Butter and Flavoring:   Remove from heat and stir in the butter and vanilla extract. If using, add a few drops of food coloring. Cool the Taffy:   Pour the mixture onto a greased marble surface or a heatproof baking sheet. Let it cool for about 5 minutes until it's cool enough to handle. Poor Man's cake

Poor man cake  1/2 C Lard  2 C Sugar  2 1/2 C Flour  1/2 c Cocoa  1 tsp Baking Soda  1 tsp Vanilla  1 C Hot Water  1 Tbls Vinegar  Cream Sugar and lard. Sift together flour, Cocoa and Baking Soda combine vinegar, water and vanilla.  Add each in parts to the creamed sugar mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 45 minutes.  From my childhood. Love this cake, it is a heavy cake. We never gave mom a chance to ice it, but any icing will work on it... Sent from AOL on Android

Hot Water Pastery

Hot Water Pastry 2 cups Sifted flour 1/2 teaspoon Baking Powder.  1 teaspoon Salt.  1/3 cup Boiling Water.  2/3 cup Shortening.  Sift flour, baking powder and salt together. Pour water over shortening and mix with a fork until creamy. Add flour mixture  and mix into a dough.  Chill throughly and spread as for plain pastry.
