Buttermilk biscuits
Southern Buttermilk Biscuits
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons unsalted butter, cold and cubed
3/4 cup buttermilk, cold
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, and salt.
Cut in the butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Make a well in the center and pour in the buttermilk. Stir just until the dough comes together; it will be sticky.
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead just a few times. Do not over-knead.
Roll the dough out to about 1 inch thick and cut with a biscuit cutter.
Place biscuits on the prepared baking sheet. For soft sides, place them touching each other; for crisp sides, place them apart.
Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
Serve warm with butter, honey, or your choice of toppings.
