Christmas Baklava
Ingredients:_____
- 1 package phyllo dough
- 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 cups mixed nuts (walnuts, pistachios, almonds), finely chopped
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup honey
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
2. In a bowl, mix together the chopped mixed nuts, sugar, and ground cinnamon. Set aside.
3. Unroll the phyllo dough and place a damp cloth over the sheets to prevent drying out.
4. Brush a baking dish with melted butter. Place a sheet of phyllo dough in the dish and brush with melted butter. Repeat with 6-8 layers.
5. Sprinkle a generous amount of the nut mixture evenly over the phyllo layers.
6. Repeat the layering process with phyllo dough and nuts until you run out of nut mixture, finishing with a top layer of phyllo.
7. Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes.
8. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until golden brown and crisp.
9. While the baklava is baking, make the honey syrup. In a saucepan, combine honey, water, and vanilla extract. Bring to a simmer and let it cook for 5 minutes.
10. Once the baklava is out of the oven, immediately pour the hot honey syrup over the hot baklava.
11. Allow the baklava to cool completely before serving.
