Angel Biscuits
Homemade Angel Biscuits
Ingredients:
5 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 tbsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup cold butter
1/2 cup shortening
2 tsp yeast
1/4 cup warm water
2 cups buttermilk
Instructions:
Mixing Dry Ingredients:
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Cutting in Fats:
Cut in the cold butter and shortening using a pastry blender or two forks until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Preparing Yeast:
In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
Forming the Dough:
Add the yeast mixture and buttermilk to the flour mixture. Stir until the dough comes together.
Kneading:
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently 3 to 4 times.
Shaping Biscuits:
Roll the dough to 1-inch thickness and cut with a biscuit cutter.
Rising:
Place the biscuits on a baking sheet, cover, and let them rise in a warm place for 30 minutes.
Preheating Oven:
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
Baking:
Bake the biscuits for 15-20 minutes or until they are golden brown.
Serving:
Serve the biscuits warm.
