Glazed Donuts
Homemade Glazed Donuts
2 tablespoons active dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water (110°F/45°C)
1 1/2 cups lukewarm milk
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
5 cups all-purpose flour
Vegetable oil for frying
For the Glaze:
1/3 cup butter
2 cups confectioners' sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
4 tablespoons hot water or as needed
Directions:
Dissolve yeast in warm water in a small bowl.
In a large bowl, mix milk, sugar, salt, eggs, butter, and 2 cups of flour. Add yeast mixture and remaining flour until a soft dough forms.
Knead on a floured surface until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
On a floured surface, roll dough to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut with a donut cutter.
Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry donuts until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
To make the glaze, melt butter in a saucepan. Stir in confectioners' sugar and vanilla until smooth. Add water one tablespoon at a time until desired consistency is reached.
Dip donuts in the glaze while still warm and set on a wire rack to dry.
